Great collection.My great great Grandfather
Philip C.Stortz had two CDV studios in Liverpool
and Leamington Spa,in the 1860's and was a rival
of Peach Robinson at one time . A wonderful
record of Victorian life.

My mouth fell open from amazement! this is one
of the greatest pages on the internet, loading
fast, great design. Compliments for your work.
Maybe you can find some sponsor to extend this
to becoming a big database for Victorian
photography from all over Europe/world?

Roger, Thanks for a truly mind blowing site. I
used to sell cartes de cabinet and cartes de
visite at Bury Place Rare Books from 1994 - 1996
as part of the range of photographic
memorabilia. We also sold old books, maps,
prints and ephemera.I have learnt more from
reading your site then I ever learnt at work.
But the old Victorian photographs are of such
quality, you have to heave a deep sigh when you
realize that so few of the pictures were ever
identified. I wish you ever more success and
thanks again. Lawrence.

Thank you for this site. I love all the old
pictures and I'm sure it will be very useful
when I start working more with my stash of
family photos this fall. For now I am
desperately trying to find information on
preserving my photos and post cards. I
recently moved to a drier climate and many of
them are curling and becoming more fragile. Is
this something you will be adding in the near
future or do you have any suggestions as to
where I mind this information?

Thanks - Wendy

What a rare site, I was net searching on another
topic & came across yer site.
I must say I have & love oldish photos,
obviously of sadly passed on family etc.
Compared to modern colour prints I find the old
black & white ones so detailed & almost
timeless. They bring the past to life to an
extent I think.

Enjoy your web-site so much. Wonder if you
might have any post-cards of Madge Hodgkinson -
she was in the Gay Gordons company with Seymour
Hicks and in an old newspaper cutting I have is
also mentioned as being a Gibson Girl. By the
way, she was my mother's aunt. Hoping to
hear. Kind regards. JM Haines

Very interesting site. I am always on the look-
out for photos of Jamaica, especially of the
1891 Exhibition and the 1907 earthquake, so I
will be checking back. A UK photographer called
A C Baker was given the monopoly of photos of
the 1891 Exhibition, but he seems to have left
with all his photos and negatives; I am always
hoping to come across his photos somewhere.
